Dear CPJA members,
All CPJA members should be aware elections for the Chair of UKCP are underway. I am emailing you as Vice chair of CPJA to remind you that every member of UKCP has a vote and to encourage you to use that vote.
There are now two candidates standing for election: Janet Weisz and Carmen Joanne Ablack. Details about all the candidates, their CVs, and statements are available here
This is a personal statement of the members of the Executive other than Janet who was absent for our discussions of how we should reorganise things to relieve her of some roles that would seem compromising should she handle them while a candidate.
It is clearly everyone’s individual decision who to vote for in these elections as it is each OM’s decision and we only encourage people to vote, we don’t, of course, tell people who to vote for! We have agonised a great deal however about how to convey something about the fact that the Chair of our College, Janet, is standing. Not saying anything about that in the spirit of free and equitable process feels incongruous, potentially looking as if we had nothing good to say about this.
In fact, we are unanimously hugely pleased that Janet has decided to stand and back her, having had good experience of her skills and generosity to UKCP. I personally have also worked closely with Janet in the crucial Colleges and Faculties Committee since I joined it over a year ago when the agreement was reached that the College whose Chair was appointed within C&FC as its Chair should have a second member there so
the Chair could chair. (Funny how elections and intermodality collaboration have made me meticulous about trying to clarify things!) She has been an exemplary Chair there, building the creative collaboration between the Colleges and Faculties that is so crucial to UKCP. Meanwhile Janet and all of us try to get on with the routine business while the election fever bubbles.
Voting will open on 1 March 2012 – instructions will be sent out to you by email. Voting will close on 14 March 2012. As we say, we encourage everyone to vote.
With best wishes
Chris Evans
Vice Chair of CPJA
